The EFetch services retrieve records in the requested format from several databases hosted by the NCBI.

This service retrieves information about journals. Hence it does not provide information about articles published in those journals. To retrieve the latter use the well documented eFetchPubmedService instead.

Note: Unfortunately this service cannot be used to retrieve records based on standardised NLM IDs or even better ISSNs. You will need to use the ESearch service to get an NCBI specific "UID" first. These UIDs can then be used to retrieve information about a journal using the eFetchJournalsService. This behaviour is poorly documented on the NCBI site: There are three examples of identifiers used to retrieve a record. Although these do work it is not clear that these identifiers are UIDs. The UIDs from the examples are not listed in the "full record" results returned for those UIDs making the confusion complete. The requirement of using ESearch first causes unnecessary overhead making this service less useful than it could have been.
